The tradition on the Sunday Jazz Brunch is to revisit previous BEST OF shows, as it is a shame to only play such a show once or twice. We always want the best and these will give it to us in spades. Meanwhile, for Sunday's show, I have  chosen some of the most beautiful music I could find. You'll hear extraordinary jazz with strings during the first hour. Steve Kuhn, one of my favorite pianists of all time, opens the show with a wonderful string orchestra. Then wait until you hear the string arrangement by Alan Broadbent for Georgia Mancio's 2025 release A Story Left Untold, listening to the title track. There something very elegant and pure about these three instruments playing together.  This year we have a bounty of material from pianist Ted Rosenthal and his trio. It is not often that we encounter an artist who has four simultaneous releases. I must admit that I was confused initially when I heard about his follow-on project to a CD released in 2010 called Impromptu , in which Mr. Rosenthal arranges classical works for jazz piano trio. Oh yes, I am familiar with their big hits and heard them many times, like Shiny Stockings , April in Paris , and, of course, Corner Pocket . But I never dug very deep beyond my love of the guitar playing of Freddie Green.   But last year I heard a singer with whom I was not familiar, on an album from Champian Fulton, called Flying High, Jazz at the Ballroom . It is a touching story - a gawky teen falls in love with a beautiful woman whose heart has been broken by tragedy.
