In the olden days, when you sought inspiration, whether it be for music, for poetry, or painting, or any endeavor for that matter, you would seek guidance from the Muses. These were inspirational goddesses from Greek mythology, and there are nine of them.

Producer, composer and keyboardist Buzz Amato, who has produced or appeared on upwards of 150 CDs, has released Muse Café, a collection of songs dedicated to the Greek Muses.

Our chat covers one of his original songs on the new album, Angel in My Pocket.  Mr. Amato wrote the music, and vocalist Melissa Ellen wrote the lyrics. He provides background on the interesting life experience that sparked her to write those lyrics.

He also talks about how he wrote the song to suggest positivity and a sense of 'otherworldliness.' There is a lyric at the very end of the song that is super interesting, and you must listen carefully to the ending of the song. Mr. Amato explains this as well.

So Much New Music

It has become rare for me to play very much music older than a year or two. That's because there's so much very good new material. When I get something new in, I naively think I'll be playing it for many weeks, until I get a new batch to make room for. Check out all the great new jazz from beginning to end of the show. The Sunday Jazz Brunch Presents Gabriel Espinosa: From Yucatán to Tarrytown Air Date: 7/7/2024 on 90.5 WICN 8am-12pm ET I'm impressed with the lineup of artists appearing at Mark Morganelli's Jazz Forum in Tarrytown, New York. Four or five names pop up on Wikipedia, mostly violin players who also happen to occasionally play viola.
