If you are a longtime listener of the Sunday Jazz Brunch, you know how much I like Alan Broadbent - his piano playing, his composing, and his arranging. A few years back he began releasing a series of CDs with vocalist Georgia Mancio. They seem to have a real connection in terms of their music. You can hear it. I recall reading somewhere that Mr. Broadbent was surprised and quite pleased that he found someone to put perfect lyrics to his melodies.

I have two prior releases from this duo and this one looks to be the third. They are all keepers. 

We open the show with a stunning orchestral arrangement to accompany Ms. Mancio's delicate voice. This is a beautiful piece, perfect to start your Sunday morning.

What an interesting collaboration this is. More than twenty years ago, Ms. Mancio had heard Mr. Broadbent perform with vocalist Irene Kral. On a whim she sent him a message asking if he wanted to collaborate on something. He sent her his original composition The Long Goodbye, and asked her to provide lyrics. Which she did. And that was the start of a beautiful friendship. Lucky for us!

The Sunday Jazz Brunch Presents Gabriel Espinosa: From Yucatán to Tarrytown Air Date: 7/7/2024 on 90.5 WICN 8am-12pm ET I'm impressed with the lineup of artists appearing at Mark Morganelli's Jazz Forum in Tarrytown, New York. The Sunday Jazz Brunch Presents Musician's Corner: Tania Grubbs Air Date: 12/22/2024 on 90.5 WICN 8am-12pm ET LISTEN TO THE SEGMENT HERE   Vocalist Tania Grubbs has released her second album, The Sound of Love . When I looked at the song list, I was reassured and impressed upon finding Duke Ellington's Sound of Love . Her take on this song is masterful. During her Musician's Corner interview, she will talk about two songs on the new CD, Tadd Dameron's If You Could See Me Now , and an original composition entitled The Sculptor's Hands .  What I noticed about Mrs Grubbs is that she finds new ways to express standards from the Great American Songbook.
