The Sunday Jazz Brunch Presents
The Pulsing Heart of Jazz
Air Date: 9/22/2024 on 90.5 WICN 8am-12pm ET
Here's what you get every Sunday morning on WICN 90.5:
Hour 1 - Your Contemplative Hour
Take it slow in the morning. Some say that ballads are the most difficult jazz to play, but perhaps the easiest to listen to and feel. But ballads are only the beginning. On the Sunday Jazz Brunch you'll hear plenty of piano trios, one of the formats particularly well-liked by our early risers. Also favored are the sounds of beautiful string arrangements. For those of you who don't usually get up until past 9am ET, you might want to make a date for this special hour of contemplative jazz. (Tip: You can also listen to the show later from our archives.)
Hour 2 - New For You
The songs you'll hear during the second hour aren't just new, they are really new. Every week we get tons of new material, and I pick the best and put it right into the rotation. There's nothing wrong with the old material - the classics - but many jazz fans long to hear something new. And that's what you get, in spades, during the second hour.
Hour 3 - Brazil and World Jazz
The contribution to American jazz music from Brazil is enormous, taking off in 1962, when Stan Getz and Charlie Byrd released Jazz Samba in the U.S. The bossa nova beat that was introduced to American listeners is simply irresistible. But there is more to this hour, as we turn to world jazz, which includes jazz music from other countries like Venezuela, Argentina, Cuba, France, Italy, Mexico, Greece, Germany, and wherever great jazz is being made. This is the most popular segment of the Sunday Jazz Brunch.
Hour 4 - Groove, Baby
I recently got a message from a listener who was driving in his car during Groove Hour. "I love those songs you are playing - it is perfect for driving. Plus, it sounds great on my nice car stereo!" That made my day! It is exactly what I'm going for: the groove, the beat, the rhythm, the tempo, all those aspects of the music that make you want to move, be it with your feet or with your wheels. In this last hour of the show, you are all woke up and looking for the day's groove. Find it here on the Sunday Jazz Brunch.
Don't forget Musician's Corner, which brings the artist directly to you, talking in depth about the music on their latest CD. It may appear at any point during the show, depending on the artist.
