Back in 2012, vocalist Tessa Souter released Beyond the Blue, a CD that celebrated great classical melodies by turning them into jazz standards, if they had not already been. So for example, we hear The Lamp is Low, which is based on a work by Ravel. 

Now Ms. Souter releases her sixth CD, Shadows and Silence, the Erik Satie Project. This project features pianist Luis Perdomo, bassist Yasushi Nakamura, drummer Billy Drummond, trumpeter Nadje Nordhuis and saxophonist Steve Wilson.

In the new release, we hear Ms. Souter's lyrics integrated into the music of Erik Satie. Many listeners will know the Trois Gymnopédies from an old Blood, Sweat, and Tears album. Here we have the beautiful melody with lyrics. 

In fact, the entire CD is a collection of one beautiful melody after another, with the crystalline voice of Tessa Souter floating above.
