Truckloads of New Jazz!

Take a look at the playlist down below, and you will see quite a few tracks from CDs released just in 2021. Here we are, three months into the new year, and already there is so much new jazz to sift through, to listen to, and enjoy.
 
And that's exactly what I'm doing! I suspect that would save you a bit of time and money, since all you have to do is tune in to the Sunday Jazz Brunch to hear the best tracks from the new crop. 

Take the new release from Diego Figueiredo, for example. The show opens with a fine track entitled Bled, but there is one song on Antarctica that really got me: My Friend Menescal. This song opens Brazil/World hour in beautiful fashion. We have three of Mr. Figueiredo's releases in our library, and each new release seems better than the previous one.
 
Pianist Art Hirahara is another artist I am tracking. When I first heard him a few years ago I knew we had another fine keyboard player here. His new CD from 2020 is called Balance Point.

I have some other releases from 2020 that I'm playing for the first time on SJB, like another keyboardist Sam Hirsh, here with his debut CD. Check out his version of Look For The Silver Lining during your contemplative morning. 

While we're on the subject of pianists, one of my long term favorites Eric Reed also had a release in 2020 that I'm just getting to now. Well, you might know how much I love a good piano trio, so these releases are quite welcome.

I did want to mention that we have some great material during groove hour, including a new release from saxophonist Richard Elliot. And I am still grooving with drummer Steve Gadd from his live release recorded in Tokyo.

The Sunday Jazz Brunch Presents Gabriel Espinosa: From Yucatán to Tarrytown Air Date: 7/7/2024 on 90.5 WICN 8am-12pm ET I'm impressed with the lineup of artists appearing at Mark Morganelli's Jazz Forum in Tarrytown, New York. The Sunday Jazz Brunch Presents Muscian's Corner: Debbie Spring Air Date: 11/19/2023 on 90.5 WICN 8am-12pm ET CLICK HERE TO LISTEN Do an internet search for 'jazz viola' and you won't get very much. Four or five names pop up on Wikipedia, mostly violin players who also happen to occasionally play viola. Add to this, over the many thousands of CDs I have listened to during my tenure at WICN, I do not recall ever coming across a jazz viola player.  Until now.
