Happy Jazzy New Year

It's coming. I'm working on it - the best of 2023 show! One of my favorite shows to do all year. Fun but difficult. Some tracks have to be omitted. So sad. But tomorrow is another day, and there will be an absolute TON of great jazz coming your way with this, as with any, Best OF (BOF) show.

Meantime, what do we have for our last show of the year 2023? (That sounds odd, doesn't it?).

Well, I'm digging the new CD from guitarist Joceyln Gould, who features Randy Napoleon - see if you can tell who's who just by listening.

I like the Affinity Trio with Eric Jacobson on trumpet. His tone is so clean.

Roberto Menescal - what can I say? He is brilliant. Look at the last set of Brazil hour.

Robin McKelle - great vocalist and sure to be in the best of 2023 with her tribute to Ella.

Bianca Rossini - new artist!

Four or five names pop up on Wikipedia, mostly violin players who also happen to occasionally play viola. Add to this, over the many thousands of CDs I have listened to during my tenure at WICN, I do not recall ever coming across a jazz viola player.  Until now.
