The Sunday Jazz Brunch Presents Janice Siegel and Yaron Gershovsky Air Date: 8/11/2024 on 90.5 WICN 8am-12pm ET Here we have two members of The Manhattan Transfer putting out a release dedicated to composer Cy Coleman. Mr. Coleman, born Seymour Kaufman and raised in the Bronx, NY, is famous for writing the songs Witchcraft and The Best is Yet to Come. Both songs are of course included on this release. In addition, the song that Mr. Coleman is perhaps best well-known for, the Playboy Theme Song , is also included. Sunday's show opens with the absolutely gorgeous strings found on Alan Broadbent's 2006 release Every Time I Think of You. The Sunday Jazz Brunch Presents George Benson Air Date: 8/4/2024 on 90.5 WICN 8am-12pm ET Yes, there is a new George Benson CD just released. However, the music is not new; rather, it dates from 1989. When you hear it though, you won't be able to tell that it is that old. It has been processed and cleaned up, and the superb arrangements of  master arranger Robert Farnon shine through very cleanly and clearly, as does the great tone that Benson achieves on his Ibanez guitar.  This release brings Mr. Benson back to the Warner Brothers label, where he recorded his big crossover hit, Breezin', back in 1976. The story goes that Mr. Benson asked Quincy Jones who was the best arranger in the world. The reply: Robert Farnon. So they made contact and then agreed to put together this CD, featuring Mr. Farnon's orchestra to back the guitar and voice of Mr. Benson. His new CD Time Has Changed is quite good, and it is climbing the Jazzweek chart. Sunday's show opens with a very introspective piece by clarinetist Harry Skoler, from his  new CD Red Brick Hill . I keep finding new songs to like on the 2022 release Call Me Irresponsible from vocalist Lucy Wijnands and pianist/arranger John DiMartino. Hour two opens with a Beatles song, featuring Jocelyn Gould on guitar. We'll continue digging into the latest CD from Antonio Adolfo, Love Cole Porter. Recently Gabriel Espinosa performed with his superb band. In the photo above, we see Mr. Espinosa feeling the bass, with drummer Graciliano Zambonin reacting to the groove of the moment. Misha Tsiganov Also featured in the group was the very talented Misha Tsiganov on piano, as well as Aviana Gedler vocals and violin, and Alexandra Ridout trumpet and flugelhorn.
